Desperate Plea to the NHL

Dear NHL,

Please start praying that the NBA locks out so that you can, once again, be on ESPN. I don't know if you noticed, but being on ESPN is vital to any sport's financial growth. Even "sports" like hunting, bowling, and billiards get airtime on ESPN. It is also no coincidence that the PAC 10 is the only conference with sub par earnings in basketball...THEY AREN'T ON ESPN!!!!! The University of Texas just got hundreds of millions of dollars from ESPN to develop a network. ESPN wants to expand and yet you do nothing to accommodate said expansion. Your ratings on both Versus and NBC are abysmal, at best. More people watch the slam dunk contest than the NHL finals. The WNBA has similar ratings. What happened? I understand that less is more, but this is too little. How can the greatest sport on earth be reduced to something less important than the winter X games?
